A Spicing of Birds is a unique and beautifully illustrated anthology, pairing poems from one of America's most revered poets with evocative classic ornithological art. Emily Dickinson had a great love of birds--in her collected poems, birds are mentioned 222 times, sometimes as the core inspiration of the poem. However, in existing anthologies of Dickinson's work, little acknowledgment is made of her close connection to birds. This book contains thirty-seven of Dickinson's poems featuring birds common to New England. Many lesser-known poems are brought to light, renewing our appreciation for Dickinson's work.

The editors' introduction draws extensively from Dickinson's letters, providing fascinating insights into her relationship with birds. The illustrations, by late 18th century to early 20th century artists/ornithologists, are often so apt as to seem to have been created with the poems in mind. Included are beautiful watercolors by Mark Catesby, engravings of John James Audubon's paintings, illustrations by Alexander Wilson, chromo-lithographs by Robert Ridgway (curator of birds at the National Museum for some fifty years), paintings by Louis Agassiz Fuertes, and some of the earliest bird photographs by Cordelia Stanwood. The editors also discuss the development and growth of birding in the nineteenth century as well as the evolution of field guides and early conservation efforts. Brief biographies of the artists are included in an appendix. This book is an eloquent tribute to the special place held by birds in our lives and imaginations, and will make an ideal gift for both birders and poetry readers.

Great dress!
Size: 3X, Color: White
I had to go a size up in this for the chest area. But this is a great dress with adjustable straps. Can do a lot with it. Feels and looks quality!

Heavy linen, lined dress
Size: Medium, Color: White
Nice heavy linen. Lined. Has a zipper. Great quality dress. If you like pockets, this dress has them. The skirt is full at the bottom. I would prefer to have less material. The pockets are right at the hip, this is not helpful for those with hips as it adds weight and I am tall and have a nice hourglass shape, but am not looking to have bigger hips . But beautiful dress.

A beautiful dress
Size: Medium, Color: Red Rose Floral
Why did you pick this product vs others?: I absolutely love this dress. It is the first item of clothing I have purchased from Amazon that I haven't had to send back. The sizing is spot on. This dress is indeed 100% linen. The workmanship is great. It is truly a beautiful dress and it brought me many compliments.

Beautiful & comfortable summer dress
Size: XX-Large, Color: Whisper White/Black Polka Dot
Beautiful summer dress! I’m very busty, so I really appreciate the stretchy material on the back. The shoulder straps are adjustable, with a button cleverly hidden on the inside where they attach, and the side zipper is perfect. It keeps my bust from straining the dress when i’m putting it on. The pockets are definitely a bonus! The fabric is a bit light, but it has an underlining that doesn’t affect the fit. I don’t see a tag besides the size label, but it feels like cotton. I love it and think it’s worth the price. Hopefully, it stays just as nice after washing. I plan on buying the black one too.
