From the foremost authority on the famed Georgia barrier island, here is the first in-depth look at Jekyll Island's early history. Much of what defines our view of the place dates from the Jekyll Island Club era. Founded in 1886, the Club was the private resort of America's moneyed elite, including the Vanderbilts, Rockefellers, and Pulitzers. In her new book that ranges from pre-Columbian times through the Civil War and its aftermath, June Hall McCash shows how the environment, human conflict, and a desire for refuge shaped the island long before the Club's founding.

Jekyll's earliest identifiable inhabitants were the Timucua, a flourishing group of Native Americans who became extinct within two hundred years after their first contact with Europeans. Caught up in the New World contests among France, Spain, and England, the island eventually became part of a thriving English colony. In subsequent stories of Jekyll and its residents, the drama of our nation plays out in microcosm. The American Revolution, the War of 1812, the slavery era, and the Civil War brought change to the island, as did hurricanes and cotton farming. Personality conflicts and unsanctioned love affairs also had an impact, and McCash's narrative is filled with the names of Jekyll's powerful and often colorful families, including Horton, Martin, Leake, and du Bignon.

Bringing insight and detail to a largely untold chapter of Jekyll's past, June Hall McCash breathes life into a small part of Georgia that looms large in the state's history.

Working well for my home physical therapy follow-up needs
Color: Assorted
These bands work well for me to continue my physical therapy regimen at home. I have only owned them for a few weeks but the quality seems to be good for my usage. Just keep in mind I am using these for PT, not for any advanced or lofty strengthening goals.

Good starter resistance bands, nice design and fair quality
Color: Coffee
I recently started working out and spent quite some time choosing resistance bands. I decided to go with this set mainly because it has a huge number of reviews and is very popular, which felt like a safe option for a beginner. Overall, I think this is a good value-for-money product. The bands look nice, and I really like the color palette — the coffee/milky tones look stylish and different from the usual bright gym colors. I use them regularly, and they work fine for my workouts. One thing worth mentioning is that if you use them directly on bare skin, they can roll a bit. However, when wearing leggings, they stay in place and feel comfortable. At this stage, I’m satisfied with them. In the future, as I train more, I’ll probably upgrade to a higher-end set, but for starting out, these bands do the job well. I’d rate them 4 out of 5.

Great quality
Color: Assorted
I use these bands every day. They have different resistant levels. I’m not sure of the pounds but easier to more difficult in range. You can actually exercise with these bands while you’re watching TV, so I do some of my exercises in the evenings while watching TV, I can see a big difference in the strength of my arms and legs. You just have to keep with it.
