Balance is one of the fundamentals of good horsemanship. A combination of the comfort of a nylon halter, the control and communication of a rope halter, and the safety of a leather breakaway crown, the Breakaway Horseman's Halter is the best of all worlds.

Designed by equine educator Kalley Krickeberg, founder of the Balanced Horse Training Program, the Horseman’s Halter transfers the signal pressure from the lead rope to across the nose, where it is most effective. The patented design prevents twisting across the horse’s face, minimizing confusion and allowing the handler to keep the signals and pressure where they need to be.

Effective horsemanship tools reduce the amount of force needed to maintain communication and control, and the Horseman’s Halter has been developed with that in mind. This halter goes from groundwork and lunging in the roundpen to trailering, providing peace of mind knowing your horse is riding comfortably and that you have full control when you need it.

Crafted from top-quality nylon, this halter features a rope nose and chin with strategically placed knots that enhance responsiveness and encourage lightness, and a leather breakaway crown piece for safety. The patented sliding chin ring enables the lead rope to move a full 180 degrees. This unique feature makes training and handling more effective and efficient.

  • Designed by Kalley Krickeberg – Renowned equine educator with expertise in colt starting, cow work, and polo, creator of the Balanced Horse Training program
  • Breakaway Design – For added safety and security, holds under normal circumstances, gives way under added stress
  • Premium Leather Construction – High-quality leather with a rope nose and chin for enhanced control and communication
  • Sliding Chin Ring for Versatility – Allows for 180-degree movement, making lunging, groundwork, and bitless riding a more high quality experience for horse and rider/handler
  • Comfortable & Horse-Friendly – Hybrid design lessens torque on the horse’s sensitive head and poll region, reducing discomfort and unwanted pressure points
  • Enhanced Handler Control – Reduced surface area across the nose, cheeks and chin discourages pushing, pulling, or dragging, promoting better ground manners
  • Multi-Purpose Use – Ideal for groundwork, training, lunging, trailering, cross-tying, and everyday handling
  • Solid Brass Hardware – Corrosion-resistant and long-lasting for superior durability

Comprehensive Guide with Practical Insights
Format: Paperback
This is a solid book for understanding the art and science of working with LLMs and other generative AI models. I always struggled with getting the output I was looking for, and wasn't sure how best to "ask" the models for what I wanted. This book did a great job of laying out the strategies and practical guidance to craft the prompts. There were a lot of tips and tricks, but the overall understanding and framework around prompt engineering has been super useful.

A must read!
Format: Paperback
Hands down, the best book on prompt engineering and implementing LLMs. Really enjoyed Michael and James deep dive. Whether you're technical or not, this book is foundational to a deeper understanding in how to properly explore and implement LLMs.

Helpful for GPT/LangChain framework
Format: Paperback
I applaud the authors for putting forth a comprehensive introduction in a rapidly evolving space. I absorbed a lot, helpful as I was developing a prototype — using open source methods. And that’s where I was disappointed. The LLM and examples are highly adapted to OpenAI’s GPT-x and the bulky LangChain framework, something not obvious until you dig in to the book. Sure, this may be where newbie demand was when the authors began writing. But as the open source models and OpenAI alternatives gain speed (e.g. Llama 3.1, Groq, etc.) this book may quickly need an updated and expanded version to stay relevant.

Good concepts, but uneven depth
Format: Paperback
Some helpful prompt frameworks, but parts felt repetitive and a few sections stayed too high-level for advanced users. Beginners will likely benefit more than experienced practitioners. If you’re new to prompt engineering it’s a decent starting point; if you’re already building structured prompts daily, it may feel light.
