Six Questions Your Saladworks Franchise Financial Model Must Answer

We built this franchise unit financial model using our own research to ensure it reflects the day-to-day reality of running a healthy fast-casual store. Key assumptions like your $775,000 year-one revenue and 6% royalty fees are pre-populated but fully editable to match your specific territory. This tool gives you a data-driven look at how catering and digital orders can push your EBITDA toward $445,000 by year five.

When does the unitbecome profitable?

This unit is designed for a fast start, reaching its break-even point in April 2026, just four months after opening. While year one EBITDA is $108,000, the real momentum happens in years three through five as revenue clears the $1 million mark. Here's the quick math: keeping food costs under 12% is the key to staying in the black during that first year. Profitability depends on volume, but the margins are there if you execute.

Boost Unit Profitability

  • Upsell high-margin drinks
  • Minimize food prep waste
  • Optimize crew labor hours
[dynamic_pic9]

How much capitalis required?

You will need a total initial investment that covers the $35,000 franchise fee and nearly $590,000 in hard costs like leasehold improvements and equipment. The biggest chunk is the $295,000 for build-out, plus another $120,000 for refrigeration and salad prep gear. What this estimate hides is the need for a significant cash buffer to handle the ramp-up phase. You should plan for your lowest cash point of $708,000 to occur around December 2026.

Major Capital Uses

  • Leasehold Improvements: $295,000
  • Kitchen Equipment: $120,000
  • Initial Franchise Fee: $35,000
[dynamic_pic10]

What is thereturn on investment?

The ROI analysis for this unit shows an Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 1.63% and a Return on Equity (ROE) of 0.59. While the unit generates strong annual EBITDA, the high initial build-out costs mean the full payback period extends beyond the first five years of operation. This is a long-term play focused on building a stable, cash-flowing asset rather than a quick flip. Still, the cash flow growth from $108k to $445k is a strong signal for multi-unit operators.

Key Investment Metrics

  • IRR: 1.63%
  • Payback: After Year 5
  • Year 5 EBITDA: $445,000
[dynamic_pic11]

What is thebreak-even point?

The monthly break-even point occurs in month four, driven largely by your ability to cover the $12,500 monthly rent and $15,000+ in management salaries. Your primary lever for hitting this goal is the daily salad and wrap volume, which accounts for over 70% of your initial revenue mix. If opening takes 90+ days longer than planned, your working capital pressure will rise significantly. Speed to market is your best friend here.

Reaching Break-Even Faster

  • Drive catering sales early
  • Control packaging costs
  • Maximize peak hour throughput
[dynamic_pic12]

What is thecash runway?

Your lowest cash point hits in December 2026 at $708,000, meaning you need to be well-capitalized from day one. The model suggests you have a solid runway, but you must manage the timing gaps between your $590,000 in upfront CAPEX and the ramp-up of your catering revenue. If you don't hit your year-two revenue target of $906,000, you may need to tighten the belt on non-essential maintenance. Cash is the lifeblood of the unit during the first 18 months.

Protecting Unit Cash Flow

  • Phase equipment purchases
  • Manage opening inventory tightly
  • Negotiate tiered rent steps
[dynamic_pic13]

How do scenarioschange outcomes?

In a high-growth scenario where revenue hits the $1.45M mark by year five, your EBITDA margin becomes very attractive for a multi-unit play. However, in a low-growth case, the high fixed costs of prime real estate and management salaries will defintely squeeze your net income. The difference between a 1.63% IRR and a double-digit return often comes down to how well you execute local marketing and digital pickup lanes. Small wins in average ticket size make a massive difference over 60 months.

Improving High-Case Odds

  • Execute local influencer ads
  • Speed up digital pickup
  • Retain high-performing crew

First ball was great!
Color: Black Green, Size: 8 Inch
This ball was great! My dog loves it. I ordered another smaller one. It had no pump and the inside was separated from the outside piece so it couldn’t be pumped up.

Fun and durable
Color: Flag, Size: 6 Inch, Color: Flag, Size: 6 Inch
I have a 5 month old teething Whippet puppy and this toy is a favorite. She loves carrying it around by the straps, playing tug, and trying to chew it. I think it’s pretty tough and durable for someone her size. I could see how a shepherd might destroy it quickly, though. I was surprised to find you have to inflate it, but the pump and needles are included and it hasn’t lost any air over several days of rough play. (I kick it and toss it to her. We tug with the straps. She carries it everywhere.) The material feels like a heavy duty soccer ball, just smaller. It’s the perfect size for her. I’d definitely buy it again.

It's a (smaller) soccer ball with nylon straps. Will no last long for aggressive chewers.
Color: Black Green, Size: 8 Inch
As the item title states, it's a soccer ball with straps. It feels like a soccer ball, but smaller and doesn't make any noises. The 8 inch size just right for my 50 lb dog. He can't get his mouth around the ball, but can bite down on the straps as we kick it around. He also plays and tosses it around by himself. It's also easy to clean. It's a good item, but suffers from two issues. 01) The nylon straps are tough, but not as durable as I though. My dog is aggressive chewer and has managed to chew them up a bit. 02) There is a nylon strap that is longer than all the others, so he tends to focus on that one. After about 15 days of playing with hit, he's managed to chew that strap up to the point that it's almost falling off. It would be nice if all the straps were the same, larger, size.

Highly recommend
Color: Black Green, Size: 8 Inch
I was skeptical that it would hold up to our aggressive chewer puppy (staffyX) - especially during teething. But it has survived past teething into adult chompers and is still fantastic! Its his favorite outside toy, especially the tags make it fun (and those have been holding up well too). If/when it fails, I'll buy another one.

great design, poor overall quality
Color: Black Green, Size: 8 Inch
My dog loves these balls. The "tags" are a great design. The problem I have is the quality as they aren't tough enough. He goes through them pretty quickly tearing off the tags and puncturing the ball. He doesn't get that these actually cost money! Each one also comes with a small pump, which I guess is great for a one time buy?, but man, if you don't own a pump just buy one and keep one. I have no use for several of these cheap pumps. How about offering the pump as an add-on for a dollar or two?
