In the songs and bubble feeding of humpback whales; in young killer whales learning to knock a seal from an ice floe in the same way their mother does; and in the use of sea sponges by the dolphins of Shark Bay, Australia, to protect their beaks while foraging for fish, we find clear examples of the transmission of information among cetaceans. Just as human cultures pass on languages and turns of phrase, tastes in food (and in how it is acquired), and modes of dress, could whales and dolphins have developed a culture of their very own?

Unequivocally: yes. In The Cultural Lives of Whales and Dolphins, cetacean biologists Hal Whitehead, who has spent much of his life on the ocean trying to understand whales, and Luke Rendell, whose research focuses on the evolution of social learning, open an astounding porthole onto the fascinating culture beneath the waves. As Whitehead and Rendell show, cetacean culture and its transmission are shaped by a blend of adaptations, innate sociality, and the unique environment in which whales and dolphins live: a watery world in which a hundred-and-fifty-ton blue whale can move with utter grace, and where the vertical expanse is as vital, and almost as vast, as the horizontal.

Drawing on their own research as well as a scientific literature as immense as the sea--including evolutionary biology, animal behavior, ecology, anthropology, psychology, and neuroscience--Whitehead and Rendell dive into realms both humbling and enlightening as they seek to define what cetacean culture is, why it exists, and what it means for the future of whales and dolphins. And, ultimately, what it means for our future, as well.

Made in China? Really famous German brand Bosch?
Made in China? Really famous German brand Bosch? I would not have bought this filter for my Porsche Macan if I'd known it was made in China and would have bought a German-made Mann or Mahle filter like I have in the past.

Factory Brand Great filter kits
I just wanted to write a current review of a product I have used for about ten years now. Our Family is a BMW fan. We call them the German Honda's. Our experience with seven vehicles over the years and to this day have proven how reliable these cars are. Anyways back to these filters, the Mann filter is the factory filter just boxed up in a BMW box. this kit comes with all the o-rings and a new drain plug. while you don't have to have a new drain plug it is nice to have as they torque down and the threads are plastic. I have ALWAYS changed oil at 10K not the 15K interval. I also only use the mobil1 syn Thats a different review but suffice to say if you see your oil at 10K vs 15K you would change your oil at 10 as well. these filters are again a perfect fit the kit comes with all needed o rings and at this price I usually order 4-6 at a time. We have four cars at the moment this is the first time I have ordered from amazon ( I resisted until now) feeling dumb to be so late to the amazon game. I usually try to support (The local auto parts) but during the covid lock down I used amazon. I saved about $3.25 per filter. which is not a small amount when we go through 8 filters a year but also even mathed out over the last ten years is only $300 to support the local shop that I do buy other parts at as well. Long review to say these are great filters and again get the kit use the new plug and happy driving for years
