Super-Sonic Jazz present a reissue of Hal Singer and Jef Gilson's Soul Of Africa, originally released in 1974. Considered one of the most important Afro-Parisian jazz records of the '70s, Soul Of Africa sees Texas tenor sax giant Hal Singer team up with French pianist Jef Gilson, and his Afrocentric, big jazz band. Originally released in 1974 on legendary French imprint French Le Chant Du Monde, and reissued in 2008 on Dutch imprint Kindred Spirits, Super-Sonic Jazz Records provides yet another opportunity to get ahold of this driving, testament to spiritual, ethno-jazz. Full of rhythmic modal jazz, Soul Of Africa plays off the talents of Singer and Gilson with great panache, all the while supported by the sublime percussive talents of Gilson's finely directed band. During the '60s, Gilson was equal to the likes of Miles Davis, and was responsible for unearthing the talent Henri Texier, one of jazz's unrivaled, brilliant bass players. His music spanned various modes of jazz, and was recognized primarily for his Malagasy works, inspired by his trips to Madagascar. Contemporary music fans will be familiar with his work, after a recent Four Tet project sampled, remixed, and compiled a selection of his work. Hal "Cornbread" Singer who, in his long career, played alongside Duke Ellington, Roy Eldridge, Billie Holiday, and far more, was a Mercury Records' legend whose work with rhythm and blues, and jazz is unparalleled. Originally reissued by Dutchman Kees Heus, aka KC The Funkaholic, on his soulful, and eclectic imprint Kindred Spirits, this is another chance to get ahold of the classic release through his latest adventure, Super-Sonic Jazz. Running a parallel event at Amsterdam's Paradiso club, Super-Sonic Jazz sets out to push the boundaries of music, through bringing together eclectic, and global rhythmic luminaries, with more contemporary, genre-agnostic musical forms. Comes in a heavyweight tip-on sleeve.

Drama Free For Sure!
Format: Kindle
Nedra Glover Tawwab is a New York Times bestselling author, a licensed therapist, and a sought-after relationship expert. This book is a therapeutic and educational tool that addresses how to consciously change behaviors you’d rather not have in relationships, specifically, around your family. For those of us who have delved into the self-help book world, this is an in-depth, thorough refresher, focusing on family dynamics.
Nedra’s core belief is that relationships contribute to mental health. They can cause you pain or they heal you. She focuses on taking your relationships seriously and teaches the art of having tough but intentional conversations to create positive change. OR you’ll learn how to sever ties when the relationship is unmanageable.
None is more influential than the formative years we’ve had with our family of origin. A lot of people lament that not everything is about the family, but yup, so often it’s true. In childhood, most likely we weren’t allowed to be ourselves, so our true selves started to develop when becoming an adult. Like a butterfly using its colossal strength to break out of its chrysalis, we too must use our emotional colossal strength to break out of our childhood mold in order to fly. We are able to have relationships with family on our terms.

Insightful and Compassionate.
Format: Hardcover
I really love Nedra Glover Tawwab's work. I started with "Set Boundaries, Find Peace" and that opened the gateway to a broader and more helpful healing journey for me. This book, "Drama Fee" was just an evolutionary step in her series and a more in depth dealing with family relationships. The different perspectives for each chapter on how the concept can be applied was/is helpful as it often feels like books of this nature are only telling the black or white way to focus on a relationship. I felt seen and heard that though my familial relationships are unique there are commonalities and in turn ways to approach healing, reconciliation (with oneself and with family), understanding and compassion, to a achieve drama free relationships. As humans we are bread for connection and I appreciate Nedra Glover Tawwab's help in navigating them.

Read. This. Book.
Format: Kindle
Read this book if you have a dysfunctional family or relationship with family members (including in-laws and extended family). Read this book if you think you don’t.
Nedra outlines several different types of familial relationships and how challenging it can be to work through dysfunction or things we have considered normal that are not. Nedra also provides wisdom and tools on how to overcome the many challenges that occur in relationships with family members with gentleness, understanding and realistic observations and advice.
Please keep in mind that there will likely be much to unpack from both your childhood and adulthood. It can be an incredibly emotional process in which you might need to take breaks and pauses. However, it is a worthwhile endeavor that will allow you a new, healthier perspective on your relationships with others, and it will cause you to re-evaluate yourself and how you interact with others. This is necessary wisdom for cultivating peace and harmony in your life.
I wish fellow readers an eye-opening and heartfelt journey. Be kind and gracious to yourself during this experience and best wishes in creating and living your most authentic life.
