This original Stag Cantata chest of drawers is in good used condition, with all eight drawers smoothly sliding on their runners. We found this elegant Stag Cantata chest of drawers in a classic 1960s semi-detached home near Hove — the kind with original parquet floors, full-height windows, and a real appreciation for space-age optimism. The chest had belonged to a retired design lecturer, part of a full bedroom suite purchased new in 1965 and cared for meticulously ever since.

What stood out immediately was the harmony between form and function: the sleek drawer pulls, the warm sheen of well-aged teak. You could tell it wasn’t just furniture — it was a considered choice, made in a time when British design was stepping confidently into the modern world.

The original Stag label was still present inside the drawer, and the piece had clearly lived a life of quiet utility. We chose to clean and wax it gently, preserving the original finish and character. The result? A timeless classic with just the right amount of patina — ready to bring understated mid-century elegance into a new setting.
